Shawmut Nurse’s Note It is absolutely heart-breaking to discuss a topic of this nature when discussing our very young students but, let’s talk about vaping. Of course, I know your 6-7 year old child cannot walk into a store and buy vapes but that will not stop them from getting their hands on one. They are being found on playgrounds, sidewalks and in the homes of their friends. If your child finds one, they will probably have no idea what they are but you know they’re going to be curious and probably pick it up. The terrifying fact is, though, that as harmful as vapes are, they may not be filled with what they were intended to be filled with. Vapes are being found right here in our small community with marijuana, meth and even Fentanyl. I shudder to even imagine the consequences of these chemicals in the hands and mouths of a small child. If you use a vape yourself, please be mindful about how curious children are and keep it far away from their eyes and hands as possible. Please, parents, grandparents, adult friends, talk to your children about not picking up anything that looks unusual. Take a good look around where your child is exploring. Watch over your children carefully. This world just gets scarier by the year. Don’t let your child be a statistic. Brenda Strickland, LPN Shawmut Elementary School Nurse
