| Chambers County Schools is home to approximately 4,300 students and a workforce of around 600 full- time and part-time employees in 10 schools, a career technical center and the Board of Education central office. We are proud of our recent accomplishments in raising standardized test scores, achieving system-wide SACS accreditation, adding $40 million in capital improvements in 10 years and an innovative technology program that reaches every student and employee. We strive to continue growing in every area. At least 58 percent of our certified personnel hold a master's or higher academic degree and almost all of our teachers meet Alabama's highly qualified standard for requirements of "No Child Left Behind." Our career tech programs are 100 percent certified to business and industry standards. We continue to expand our school facilities. Among programs in place in our schools are the Alabama Reading Initiative, Reading First Initiative, ACCESS, AMSTI. TEAM Math, a pre-kindergarten program in five schools, and career technical education programs including health science, building construction, cosmetology, industrial services technology, automotive technology, environmental management, horticulture and business/information technology. We offer commendable services for children with special needs including co-teaching between regular education and special education teachers. After-school programs reinforce learning for at-risk students, and the New Directions Learning Center is available for middle and secondary disciplinary referrals. Our high schools are improving their graduation exam passing rate in core subjects and supplement their academic curriculum with art, drama, music, horticulture, well-rounded athletic programs and extracurricular activities. Our ratio of students-per-computer surpasses the state average. Our communications department, in cooperation with committee members from each school, produces a quarterly publication, Connection, which is distributed to our students through the schools and to the community through the local newspapers, The Valley Times News and The LaFayette Sun. If you would like printed copies of previous issues or brochures featuring our school system and community, please contact the communications office at 334-768-3997. The latest edition of Connection is posted in the Communications section. Please feel free to browse this website for an overview of our departments, timely information and links to all of our school websites. |
